TJ Carpenter: An SEC Welcome

@TJCarpenterWHB – tj@810whb.com – This is my first blog post. I’m new to Kansas City and WHB and I have to say, I couldn’t feel more welcome in the City of Fountains; nice people, great barbeque, and it feels pretty cool to be on the strongest sports radio signal in the country. That being said, I’m an SEC guy and if you’re a Mizzou fan, don’t expect to feel as welcome in your new home as I feel in mine.

I was talking with a lifelong Jayhawk fan last night about the unmistakable pride (and some would argue arrogance) SEC fans have in their conference. It’s a pride that has made members of other conferences feel obligated to develop some of the same in their own; but it never is the same. By now, you’ve probably heard the most repeated phrase from people in SEC country when trying to explain what exactly makes their brand of football so superior in every single way, “It’s just different here in the South.” And that was his biggest complaint, “what exactly don’t I understand? You say it’s different, how?”
Well I’ll explain it to you. You may not want to believe it, you may not want to accept it, but in the end you’ll experience it for yourself. When that happens, you’ll both believe and accept it and want to grow to be a part of it.

The Hurtt Locker: Alabama… Delusional.

Sometimes it hurts to be a fan of the opposing team. Jeremy Hurtt lets Alabama fans know they may be good on the football field, but that’s mainly due to Arkansas, and other than that, they have very little going for them.

TJ Carpenter: Let The Alabama-Arkansas Chess Match Begin

This article originally appeared on MrSEC.com

TJ Carpenter

While most fans in Alabama have completely disregarded the challenge the Razorbacks pose to the Crimson Tide, it will be much more of a chess match than they anticipate.

While most fans in Arkansas are still sweating bullets over a too-close-for-comfort win over Troy, the Razorbacks will be much more prepared to face Alabama than they could possibly hope for.

Neither coach wants to make this matchup about them over the teams, but that’s what it will come down to. Since being at Arkansas Bobby Petrino has yet to out-coach Nick Saban. But if there’s one guy who could do it, it’s Petrino. The offensive mastermind has been drawing up game plans and running through doomsday scenarios for almost a year to the day since losing a lead late last season in this same matchup. Saban and the Crimson Tide will be ready. Read more »

PODCAST: Arkansas-Alabama should be close; Jeff Long Interview

On the show we talk about Arkansas’ heavy tasks against Alabama, but why Arkansas fans shouldn’t pout or worry the Razorbacks won’t show up to play in Tuscaloosa. We talk with Arkansas Athletic Director Jeff Long about conference realignment as well as national exposure for the Razorbacks this season. We discuss what Pac-12 commissioner Larry Scott’s announcement means for the future of college football realignment. Great analysis from Chris Bahn of Arkansas Sports 360. Russ Mitchell of College Football News is kind enough to stop by at the end of the show and tell us all why Arkansas isn’t good enough to beat Alabama.

PODCAST: The NFL’s new Era of Quarterbacks; Alabama defense doesn’t need a pedestal

The NFL has figured out the formula on how to develop quarterbacks in the NFL. The NFL is about Elite Veterans and a strong class of young, mostly first round picks, at quarterback. Alabama’s defense is good, but Arkansas is good as well. The gap isn’t nearly as large as some fans might think. Never underestimate what a year’s worth of anticipation can do to motivate a football team. Izzy Gould of the Mobile Press Register talks Alabama strengths and weaknesses. Robbie Neiswanger of Arkansas News talks about what the Razorbacks need to do to win in Tuscaloosa. Also we break down the risers and fallers in Major League Baseball. Yes, Boston, the end is nigh.

PODCAST: It’s Arkansas-Alabama week; Does the Troy game bother you? Brady controls the locker room in NE

This week Arkansas plays Alabama in their first big game of the season, and boy is it a doozey. After a less than impressive performance against Troy, many Arkansas fans are worried. Are you? Tom Brady controls the locker room so amazingly well. Conference realignment made a lot of headlines this weekend as Pitt and Syracuse leave the Big East for the ACC, which now means the Big 12 ain’t looking too bad. Both are doomed however. Chris Bahn of Arkansas Sports 360 and Dan Wetzel of Yahoo! Sports join the program and talk about it all with me.
