Morality and Business seldom mix in Sports

@TJCarpenterWHB – tj@810whb.com – Tyrann Mathieu at LSU, Chad Johnson in the NFL and countless other athletes believe they can get away with disregarding rules and laws because of a culture created to idolize them. Teams and businesses build them up because fans are drawn to them and are therefore easy cash cows. The business of sports is almost always the status quo, even though most feign moral obligation as their primary focus. And even when teams like Arkansas take a moral stand and fire coaches, the media criticizes that stance as “bad business”. In the world of sports, business and morality seldom mix. And the punishments doled out to schools and teams are never harsh enough to deter future disregard, just as USC. In their first year back in bowl eligibility, they are favorites to win the National Title.

Don’t sleep on Cassel, Poe on the other hand…

@TJCarpenterWHB – tj@810whb.com – The Chiefs offense is going to be potent this coming season with everyone healthy, a personnel upgrade, and a new head coach. Despite the fact they DON’T have Charlie Weis calling the plays their numbers should rival or surpass those in 2010. The defensive line on the other hand may not be where most fans would like it to be, and Dontari Poe isn’t the answer people were looking for in the middle. You can hope, but you shouldn’t expect Poe to be the can’t miss player the Chiefs treated him like during the draft.

Sports Night: Passing in the NFL and the Chiefs

@TJCarpenterWHB – tj@810whb.com – The NFL’s average passer rating has increased from 75 to 84 gradually since 1987. What does that mean? If you aren’t a great passing team, you probably aren’t winning games. What does that mean for Matt Cassel and the Chiefs this coming season? Great things… very great things.

PODCAST: What’s next Bobby? Arkansas gets Paul Petrino back, Frees Willy.

Arkansas has had a tumultuous past few days as Offensive Coordinator Garrick McGee took the head coaching job at UAB, John L Smith took the head coaching position at Weber State, and today defensive coordinator Willy Robinson resigned. McGee has been replaced by former Arkansas offensive coordinator Paul Petrino, but the other two positions remain unfilled. With any successful program there is turnover. Everyone wants a piece of what makes YOU great as a program. But the monster must be fed. Fans expect wins. Today I ask the question, what’s next Bobby? We also talk about the insanity of trading a first ballot hall of fame quarterback for an unproven draft pick… I’m looking at you Indianapolis. Also, will a new Big 3 be formed in LA as Dwight Howard and Chris Paul mull over their options in trades and free agency. Hey, I’d want to play with Kobe. Robbie Neiswanger of the Arkansas news Bureau breaks down Paul Petrino’s impact on the Razorbacks. John Pennington of MrSEC.com gives you his Heisman ballot. PODCAST: Arkansas Basketball is going to take some time to rebuild, Elway knows Tebow is here to stay

The Razorback Basketball program needs some help. Attendance is down, fans are concerned and the after all the program has been through there has been little good news yet when it comes to what the team is and is not capable of this season without their best player and little veteran leadership from Marshawn Powell. John Elway (pictured here when he played a double in Back to the Future II) knows Tim Tebow is a long term solution because of what he does for Denver’s relevancy in the NFL nation-wide, even if he won’t admit it. We break down the NBA before Free Agency starts and the NFL playoff picture. The Texans may have been super bowl contenders without all the injuries, but the just had to sign Jake Delhomme. I can’t take any team who signs Jake Delhomme seriously. As MJD of Yahoo Sports Shutdown Corner put it, “Jake Delhomme isn’t a quarterback, he’s a cry for help.” We talk with John Engleman of KFSM Channel 5 and Tom Fornelli of CBS Sports about the bowl picture and what Hogs are and aren’t going pro.
