PODCAST: The Defensive Coordinator Search Continues, The Book Off, Charles Davis Interview

Today on the show we continue to discuss Arkansas’ options for a new defensive coordinator without Randy Shannon. Why is Randy Shannon no longer a candidate or never was a candidate? We pick this week’s NFL games. Albert Pujols and CJ Wilson joined the LA Angels and immediately make them a contender in the American League. Charles Davis of Fox Sports chats with me. Former Arkansas Razorback Bruce James and Jim Harris of Arkansas Sports 360 join me to talk about Arkansas search for a new defensive coordinator and whether or not Arkansas has the talent to compete. How important is recruiting?

PODCAST: Randy Shannon to Arkansas? Paul Petrino Interview

Today on the show we talk about former Miami head coach Randy Shannon and whether or not he is a candidate and good fit at the University of Arkansas. Yes to both. Paul Petrino stops by to talk about being the offensive coordinator once again for the Razorbacks. We discuss Kansas State’s AD making some headlines and taking the BCS to task. What is that matchup like for Arkansas. Does KSU have the horses to keep up? The Cowboys have a history of being great when it matters most, but in recent years, they’ve been snake bitten. Is the pressure of being America’s Team too much for the current Cowboys team in Dallas? Albert Pujols needs time to make a decision about where he wants to play. Should St. Louis just let him go and think about the future or spend the cash and keep one of the greatest players in franchise and baseball history? John Taylor of NBC Sports and Jimmy Carter of CBS Sports both stop by. Paul Petrino as well.

PODCAST: What’s next Bobby? Arkansas gets Paul Petrino back, Frees Willy.

Arkansas has had a tumultuous past few days as Offensive Coordinator Garrick McGee took the head coaching job at UAB, John L Smith took the head coaching position at Weber State, and today defensive coordinator Willy Robinson resigned. McGee has been replaced by former Arkansas offensive coordinator Paul Petrino, but the other two positions remain unfilled. With any successful program there is turnover. Everyone wants a piece of what makes YOU great as a program. But the monster must be fed. Fans expect wins. Today I ask the question, what’s next Bobby? We also talk about the insanity of trading a first ballot hall of fame quarterback for an unproven draft pick… I’m looking at you Indianapolis. Also, will a new Big 3 be formed in LA as Dwight Howard and Chris Paul mull over their options in trades and free agency. Hey, I’d want to play with Kobe. Robbie Neiswanger of the Arkansas news Bureau breaks down Paul Petrino’s impact on the Razorbacks. John Pennington of MrSEC.com gives you his Heisman ballot. John Engleman of KFSM Channel 5 breaks the news of Willy Robinson’s departure. Kurt Helin of NBC Sports talks about LeBron’s pursuit of a title and the subtleties of the Lakers ploy for a remade dynasty.

PODCAST: The BCS got it right, but it’s still broken

Today we talk about the broken BCS. They may have gotten it right this season in the Title game, but they got it wrong everywhere else. The BCS has turned simultaneous money-grabbing and creating bad matchups into a Zen-like thing. Tim Tebow continues to win and many don’t know why. I think it is very easy to explain. Arkansas gets back from their basketball field trip in Connecticut. Is Arkansas’ Cotton Bowl matchup a good or bad thing for the Razorbacks? Ben Kercheval of NBC Sports, Chris Bahn of Arkansas Sports 360 and Doug Farrar of Shutdown Corner all join the show to discuss today’s topics.

PODCAST: Arkansas Basketball is going to take some time to rebuild, Elway knows Tebow is here to stay

The Razorback Basketball program needs some help. Attendance is down, fans are concerned and the after all the program has been through there has been little good news yet when it comes to what the team is and is not capable of this season without their best player and little veteran leadership from Marshawn Powell. John Elway (pictured here when he played a double in Back to the Future II) knows Tim Tebow is a long term solution because of what he does for Denver’s relevancy in the NFL nation-wide, even if he won’t admit it. We break down the NBA before Free Agency starts and the NFL playoff picture. The Texans may have been super bowl contenders without all the injuries, but the just had to sign Jake Delhomme. I can’t take any team who signs Jake Delhomme seriously. As MJD of Yahoo Sports Shutdown Corner put it, “Jake Delhomme isn’t a quarterback, he’s a cry for help.” We talk with John Engleman of KFSM Channel 5 and Tom Fornelli of CBS Sports about the bowl picture and what Hogs are and aren’t going pro.

TJ Carpenter: Petrino and Miles Show No Affection in Arkansas-LSU Rivalry

TJ Carpenter

Bobby Petrino does not like to lose.

I’m having a hard time understanding why this is a shock to so many people. But after cursing in the general direction of the opposing coach and a curt handshake after the game, many are taking offense at Petrino taking offense. LSU defeated Arkansas 41-17 on the Friday after Thanksgiving. Needless to say, both the fans and the team were not in a mood to talk with the opposition.

What many around the nation saw as a slight came as no surprise to those who follow the Razorback football program closely. Petrino is short in every post-game handshake, and he curses in the general direction of just about everyone on the field every game. Read more »

PODCAST: Arkansas’ Stringent Standard for winning a National Title, LSU-Bama deserve it, Tebow just wins

Today on the show we talk about the extraordinary standard for Arkansas to win the SEC and National Title. What other schools outside the SEC West have to live up to that standard? Beat LSU and Alabama, win the Championship game and hope other elite teams aren’t also undefeated. LSU and Alabama don’t even have to live up to that standard. But Arkansas has a lot coming back next season. Is it enough to topple the Everest peak Alabama and LSU currently sit atop? Denver’s defense keeps the games close so Tebow can get them the win late. The guy just wins and even John Elway is coming around now. Ndamukong Suh is a dirty player, but he’s the only one who doesn’t seem to know that. We talk with John Pennington of Mr.SEC.com and Wally Hall of the Arkansas Democrat Gazette.

PODCAST: Petrino doesn’t Like Miles, Arkansas does’t like LSU, Boeheim’s job in Jeopardy?

Today we talk about the why so many people are taking offense at Bobby Petrino taking offense. Did LSU intentionally run up the score? What’s next for the BCS? Are you looking forward to an Alabama-LSU rematch in the national title. Because at this point it is pretty much assured. What did Jim Boeheim know and not know about Bernie Fine? It all comes down to lying. That will get you fired every time as a head coach, not the crime your player or assistant coach committed. Chris Bahn of Arkansas Sports 360 talks some Hog Football. Kurt Helin of NBC Sports is back and just happy the NBA is too.

TJ Carpenter: Razorbacks transition from playing with Uekman to playing for him

Losing a teammate is hard. Losing a friend is even harder. Losing a son is something no parent should ever have to endure. All those things were lost this weekend when Arkansas tight end Garrett Uekman died at the age of 19.

Times like these make thinking and writing about football seem trivial. The third-ranked Razorback football team, ready to take on their toughest opponent to date, No. 1 LSU, is now faced with the crushing feeling of losing a teammate and not knowing whether or not the trudge to a college football championship is as important as they had previously thought.

The feeling around Razorback nation seems to be very similar. A day that should have been all about celebration, a day when the Razorbacks saw their highest ranking in the BCS ever, was instead a day of sadness. Read more »

PODCAST: Arkansas tries to focus in the face of tragedy, Rollin’ with Nolan, Elway vs Tebow?

Arkansas gets ready for LSU right after the sudden and tragic death of Garrett Uekman, a TE for the Razorbacks. This is likely the biggest game in program history for the Razorbacks, not only does it mean a trip to the national title, but it also means Arkansas is set up to compete as an elite team in the SEC for the foreseeable future. Nolan Richardson is on to talk about the Razorbacks Basketball season and life without Marshawn Powell who is out for the season with a knee injury. Robbie Neiswanger of the Arkansas News Bureau talks about the game on Friday, and John Engleman of KFSM Channel 5 talks about whether or not a big game from Tyler Wilson could punch his ticket to New York for the Heisman race. Also, is John Elway’s tebow criticism wearing thin in the city of Denver? Does he have a point or is it just sour grapes?
